Just thinking about if we did it what sorts of things my characters would do-
Bel, Food and cooking blog thing maybe? :D Or if not then something like training and breeding and general cute videos of rabbits which would be cute.
Romania, Magic duo with England :D I guess Ro would be all dramatic and do the whole "rawr i'm a vampire" act just for fun and to make magic tricks seem more dramatic--- . I'm considering if it would be interesting if they could still do genuine magic, but disguised it as normal magic tricks to really confuse people- *Shot* Butthatwouldn'tfitHumanAUtoomuch.
Gala, Like lots of Youtube channels about people who either have lots of interesting pets/breed them/run or work at an animal sanctuary, who just post regular videos on their animals. Of course focusing on turtles and things :D WithEcuadoryay. Maybe in the RP they'd be like a sibling duo?
Hashi, I couldn't see him doing any of that stuff really, but if we did RP it on FH and Milo was there, I could picture him being like Japan's moody little brother who got dragged into it--- (And seeing as it would be like, little sibling of semi-famous online person, people'd be all "Awww" andhe'djustbeall "eathaertfgNo".)

Okay so if you don't know then you clearly do not know me well but-
I /really/ love Kitsune. And I realised that could be a RP theme? I guess yeah it would count into that idea of an AU based around a mythical species, but since I love this kind so much I wanted to suggest it on it's own.
Basically each character would have both a human and a fox form, with the fox form having from 1-9 tails depending on things like their age, power, skill and knowledge. They often have elemental abilities with fire being the most common one to see in mythology, other abilities like possession of humans are also sometimes seen. And again depending on which bit of mythology, they can be good or bad creatures.
If we wanted to do a RP with these we could use this mountain of "headcannons" for the different 'Species' (Why you will often see me referring to them as 'Multi-tailed Foxes' rather than Kitsune) I have developed with the Kitsune of Japan, the Huli Jing of China, and the Kumiho of Korea. Each with their own different features, skills and weaknesses----

Figured I may as well type out the headcannon-y-info for the different species anyway to give you guys an idea---
Some of the actual things I'd thought for some of them though I've changed or not included just because it would feel odd as part of a Hetalia AU or add to the complexity unnecessary.

All three are born as normal foxes, however they live for 100 as a normal fox, no powers, no shapeshifting, no extra tails, no human talking, so most of them die before they reach 100 years old. When they hit this age though they gain their elemental/shapeshifting powers, and can begin whatever method it is for them to gain tails. (It is random for which species they become, siblings could be different 'species')
Of course, those with more tails are looked up to by others, and all foxes aim to reach 9 tails, and beyond. It is not known what happens when one reaches 10 tails however as they appear to disappear from existence, but through legends it is believed they become gods.

Kitsune
The usually "good" ones of the three, they are generally more peaceful, and believe that all species should be given equal respect.
They gain more tails as they learn more about their skills and about the world around them, resulting in those with more tails being very wise.
They can control one of any element, but they also will always have a fox fire floating beside them which, whilst it can't be use to attack others, instead helps show the individual's general health with the brighter the flame the more well they are. It also seems to however cause the Kitsune much more able to survive serious injury than either of the other two as if the fox fire is a portion of their soul resting in safety outside the body. They are capable of only taking their natural Kitsune form, and a human form, and the ability to show or hide various fox features in their human form(Often a tell-tale sign to humans when a Kitsune messes up and accidentally reveals their tails, ears, whiskers, etc.)

Huli Jing
These foxes are either equally likely to be '"good" or "bad", or even just not care at all and just stick to themselves.
These gain tails as they absorb power and energy from other sources, be it small things including snuffing out fires(Care must be taken however as they could still get burnt), meditation in a place with much energy- Waterfalls or running streams, volcanoes, during thunder storms, or even taking the life force of other creatures(Again, care must be taken as it's not a quick process and they will be vulnerable during).
These can control both fire, and any one other element. They have no fox fire and therefore are generally physically weaker than Kitsune. Their shapeshifting abilities are the same as Kitsune.
(One thing to note is that these appear to have been the original species out of the three, the other two having branches off with the Kitsune losing their dual element control for greater physical health, and the Kumiho losing their dual elemental control for greater shapeshifting powers.)

Kumiho
These are those who are usually "bad", believing themselves to be a higher species and the others should look up to them.
They gain tails by the simple passage of time. At 100 years, they will gain their powers but not another tail, but at 200 years they will get their second tail, 300 years and third tail, 400 years- fourth tail, etc. One notable feature is that all will have one marking clear on their bodies from 100 years old which will remain the same their whole life.
The Kumiho can only control fire as an element, however to compensate their shapeshifting abilities are almost unlimited-with practice. At least, only limited to taking on the form of existing species, and only having two human forms(That is, one male and one female, they cannot change the appearances). Also, their unique marking is always present and visible in all forms, often making them identifiable regardless of the form they are in to those who know them. They do not have fox fires however and therefore are generally physically weaker than Kitsune.

Whilst I say about the Kitsune and Kumiho being usually good or bad, this is just 'usually' and there can be some which break the trend, but it is uncommon.

... But yeah see how just the characters in themselves could possibly create a plot depending on who is what---

It would probably have to focus around the conflict between the species, with the two main ones trying to gain power over the other and then the Huli Jungs doing whatever they want in between or even some being used like spies, etc.
One thing we'd have to decide would be when it's set? Like often things with such creatures are set in historical times, with minimal technology, although you do get some set in modern times but- Each has their own features that could make it more interesting or could make it less interesting.
Like in modern times would make it more interesting with the focus on keeping things secret and hidden from humans in cities? But then that could take over from the plot and make things less interesting, with it being harder for them to find places to interact and further continue the plot, or just make it unnecessarily complex.

I think for this role play, we should keep it in a historical era. If we want to focus more on how they are foxes. In modern times, they would not be able to turn into foxes that much, I would assume. There would be a lot more humans and it would be easier for them to get caught.

It could just be an entirely fictional one? I always just picture a generic world where there's no advanced technology past the use of horses and carts, fireworks, simple farming, domestic dogs, and generally no electricity. Lots of forests and a handful of small human villages scattered around?
