World Meeting ideas?

I've thought, well one thing we lack quite a bit is ideas for any specific points for the characters to talk about in their world meetings, so I figured I would make a thread here for people to suggest ideas for topics they might be discussing at their meetings?
(For example our Nekotalia Roleplay has really stalled seeing as we don't know what the meeting should be about.)

Of course there are general topics such as global warming, helping poorer countries, sports and technology. But maybe more specific ideas for things we can say are happening? Maybe something recently or currently happening in the news even.

Well I'm not all that politically aware...

But I do know there's a ton going on in the Middle East involving religion and who gets what land and whatnot, except the only country in the group we have that's in the Middle East is Israel. Besidestheothercountriesparticipatingatadistance. So I don't know how well that would even work.

Then there's also the struggle for legalization of gay marriage (which I think is pretty big in the US, France, and UK right now? That'sallIknow).

I think the pope just resigned too? And there's questioning on who will take his place.

And last, just today I think too, that it was announced North Korea is working on a new, more powerful, nuclear test.

I'm also no expert on these subjects either, ffff.

However I'm not too sure how this kind of stuff will really fit in, especially in the Nekotalia RP. Since some of this stuff is pretty serious in the long run. It'snoteasytofindcurrenteventsthatarealltoofunny,haha.
I'll try looking around for something though, and maybe I'll learn about something interesting tomorrow in youth group, if we decide to talk current events rather than do something else.

Ohokay. After a bit of looking around I found some things that might work in some way or another.
I still might look some more at home, since it's not as easy finding things while at school because of all the blocked websites and stuff.

How about the horse meat scandal that involves the UK, France, Sweden, Cyprus, Netherlands, and Romania? (and possibly others, I didn't dig too deep on it)

In France, the government officially banned the word 'hashtag', and using the word 'mot-dièse' (sharp word), instead. They've also banned the English word, 'email', replacing it with the word 'courriel'. There's also been targets on banning the words, 'Wi-Fi', 'blog', and 'internet'.

A new island appeared off the coast of Germany, and it's assumed it formed within the last 10 years or so. It goes by the name of Norderoogsand.

Hmm. I think we could relate that in some way to the Nekotalia RP actually maybe.

And another French one. There apparently has been a ban in France until very recently that women weren't allowed to wear pants in Paris. Of course it's been ignored for a long time but I think now it's officially been removed.
